They were all gathered to celebrate the release of the 1st ‘Yearbook of Chinese in Australia,’ the first ethnic chronicle in the world.
For decades, the Australian Chinese have painstakingly pioneered enterprises through their hard effort and work in Australia, making industrious and diligent efforts. Not only have they better integrated socially into communities, but they have also actively extended traditional Chinese cultures. This Yearbook records the 200-year history of Chinese people in Australia, and also captures the important activities and events that happened within the Australian Chinese community in 2013. A congratulatory message from Prime Minister Tony ABBOTT was read, highly praising the contributions of all immigrants, including the Chinese, who have made changes in the economic growth, social progress, and national prosperity of Australia.
The ‘Yearbook of Chinese in Australia 2013’ is arranged by date, recording major events from the 1st of January 2013 to the 31st of December 2013, and there are six categories, including Facts of Australia, Special Reports of Australia, Chinese in Australia, Major Annual Events, Handbook for Living in Australia and Appendix. As the first yearbook about an ethnic minority in Australia, the Yearbook of Chinese in Australia 2013 covers 3000 Chinese individuals, communities, and organizations over a total of 600 pages and 1500 entities, using 680,000 words and 150 photographs.
