Founded in 2007, the Australian Learning Delights Book Club held its fifth anniversary Thanksgiving party a few days ago in the Sydney West Pennant Hills Valley Community Centre Activity Room. Ms. Songhui HUANG (Ms. Sophia HUANG), the president of the book club, gathered together with VIPs and all members of the club at this event. The honoured guests included: Mr. Jinfa ZHOU, Taiwan Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney, Mr. Jiesong ZHENG, the Sydney Chinese Cultural Services Centre Director, Ms. Lynn YEH, the Managing Director of Homart Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Allan TUNG, the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission Committee, and so on.
‘Good Books Sharing’ and ‘Arts Appreciation’ are events organised twice every month by the Australia Learning Delights Book Club, which at the beginning was founded by a group of volunteer parents from the Sydney Taiwan Chinese School, who share the view that reading is life’s nutrient and is more fun than dealing with school affairs. They gather together to share good books and their personal reading experiences in a group. During the sharing of new knowledge, they learn collectively as a group, make progress together, and let their knowledge extend. They read with delight to create a beautiful, healthy and happy life as well as a true love and appreciation of wisdom. The Australia Learning Delights Book Club is not involved in any religious, political or partisan activities, which makes it all the more valuable, and has a wide array of various unique activities such as reading guides for new books, music appreciation, art lectures, good books exchange, the sharing of overseas travel notes, visiting exhibitions as a group, hiking, visiting gardens, conducting family picnics, coffee time, sharing home-made desserts and health concept dishes, to name a few. Reading books and magazines from all countries of the world, club members organise seminars on a regular basis to share their reading experiences, their taste of life, and to pursue everlasting physical and mental balance collectively.
In the fifth anniversary celebration ceremony of the Australia Learning Delights Book Club, volunteers were awarded by Mr. ZHOU, the Taiwan Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney, who gave a speech and recognised the book club’s concept to learn with delight, live happily, to reach self-awareness or rise to a higher mental realm of living. Mr. ZHENG, the Sydney Chinese Cultural Services Centre Director, pointed out that the Australia Learning Delights Book Club has held various high quality activities over the past five years, and has made great contributions towards the overseas Chinese community. Ms. Lynn YEH also praised the Australia Learning Delights Book Club, recognising that it shares the same values as Homart Pharmaceuticals, bringing people a healthy, balanced and happy life. Homart Pharmaceuticals supports the book club to organise meaningful activities, and is willing to provide its beautiful premises, neighbouring with the Australian National Reserve, to the book club for free, so more activities can be held and more people can benefit from them. Ms. Lynn YEH was further invited by the president of the book club to attend a lecture on work-life balance and mental health on Saturday March 9, 2013, which will be held in the conference hall of Homart Pharmaceuticals.
