Mr. Jicheng WEI, Managing Director of ABC Tissue and Chinese Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist has recently received a distinguished award along with his wife. The couple recently attended an awards ceremony held at the Hall of National Banquet in the Parliament of Australia in Canberra. With the witnesses of over 300 Federal Government officials, including Prime Minister Julia GILLARD and Opposition Leader Tony ABBOTT, the couple proudly received the award ‘Champion of Champions’, the supreme distinguished award for all enterprise in Australia during the last 25 years. This ‘Ethnic Business Award’ is specifically awarded to the enterprise considered to have made the greatest achievements among the awarded champions over the past 25 years. Ms. Lynn YEH, the Managing Director of Homart Pharmaceuticals, also widely known as the long-time charity partner of Mr. and Mrs. WEI, attended the award celebration banquet, and offered her sincerest congratulations and best wishes to the couple.
Their significant business achievements in association with ABC Tissue is an important reason Mr. and Mrs. WEI were awarded the supreme distinguished award. More importantly, the generous philanthropic contributions of the couple won the favour of the panel of judges. The couple have been involved in philanthropy since their childhoods. Mr. WEI attended charity events with his father, and inherited the philosophy ‘if one takes from society, then one must repay society’ from his father. The couple have since become important and well known philanthropists in Australia. In the past few years, they have offered a helping hand to people suffering from cataract and hearing impairments in China, Cambodia and other areas, by providing free medical treatment and issuing hearing-aids free of charge. ‘ABC Tissue Charity Train’, the project initiated by the couple, successfully helped people with different medical needs all around the world.
Under the influence of these philanthropic initiatives, Homart Pharmaceuticals Australia has become a member of the ‘Charity Train’. Every year, the company takes part in and supports a variety of charity events, making efforts to contribute to society. The ‘Charity Train’, started its operations in 2009, and since then has helped restore sight to nearly 40,000 financially disadvantaged patients of cataract; and in 2012, it issued 100,000 free hearing-aids in China. This year, it was announced that 100,000 more hearing-aids would be donated to those in need. Ms. Lynn YEH, the Managing Director of Homart Pharmaceuticals, has her esteem for Mr. and Mrs. WEI, because the couple not only contributes money and resources into philanthropic projects, but also shares their philanthropic philosophy amongst their business partners, constructing platforms for Australian enterprises to carry out joint philanthropic actions, despite their already busy schedules. Also, the couple spend several months each year to visit the areas benefited by the programs, helping the patients use the equipment correctly.
The ‘Ethnic Business Award’ conferred at the Parliament House in Canberra is awarded to the entrepreneur considered to have made highest achievements. The winner is chosen from all the champions of the ‘National Business Achievement Awards’ over the last 25 years. With the presence of the national leaders from all major parties at the ceremony, the award is perceived as one of significance and distinction. Mr. and Mrs. WEI won an extremely prestigious and important award by becoming the champion of the champions of the ethnic businesses in the last 25 years. They are undoubtedly the pride of all the Chinese Australian people.
